One of the most common issues in the forum is Why Excel 2013 crashes when plotting scatter graph". As the cause can vary. For some it is easy to be found on the Internet, but for some others, not that easy.
Generally speaking, if Excel crashes during running process, we need to collect the event log to do troubleshooting first.
Steps: Open Event Viewer to check whether there's any error about the Excel crash issue.
Press Win + R, type "eventvwr" in the blank box, press Enter. In the Event Viewer, browse to Windows Logs -> Application, there may be some errors after the crash.

We have monitored this issue on our forum for a while, several customers reported this issue that occurred in Excel 2013 64-bit version. We also could repro this issue, thus, in my view this seems a bug of scatter graph for Excel 2013 64-bit version.
To work around this issue, I have collect some useful methods:
- Use Excel 2013 32-bit version instead of 64-bit version.
- Select an empty cell and insert a scatter chart. Then select data by contextual menu.
- Disable Live Preview. Steps: Click File>Option>General
